Spicy Roasted Chevdo from Beat Heartbreak Forever (BHF)

Spice up snack time with this tasty spicy roasted chevdo recipe that features the Wots Kenyan Hot & Spicy Chevdo. Its spice plus the roasted flavour equals delicious!

Ingredients:

  • Cornflakes, 50g 
  • Oat with fruit, 50g
  • Bran flakes, 25-50g
  • Shredded wheat, 25-50g
  • Raw peanuts, 25g
  • Wots Kenyan Chevdo Hot & Spicy, 350g
  • Sultanas, 1 tbsp
  • Puffed rice, 75g
  • Roasted daria, 175g
  • Rapeseed oil, 2 tbsp
  • Dried red chilli
  • Cinnamon stick
  • Whole garlic cloves
  • Mustard seeds, ½ teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds, ½ teaspoon
  • Sesame seeds
  • Coriander seeds, ½ teaspoon
  • Asafoetida, ½ teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder, ½ teaspoon
  • Chopped coriander
  • Sugar, 1 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice, 2 teaspoons
  • Chilli powder
Steps:
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. 
  2. Crush Wots Kenyan Chevdo Hot & Spicy in a bowl. Add the corn flakes, oats, bran flakes, wheat, sultanas, daria, puffed rice, and peanuts. 
  3. In a large baking tray, place the mixture and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  4. Heat the oil and add the dried red chili, cloves, mustard, cumin, cinnamon, sesame, and coriander seeds.
  5. When the seeds start to pop, add the asafoetida, turmeric, coriander, sugar and lemon juice. 
  6. Take off of the heat. 
  7. Add the cereal mixture and chili powder and mix well.
  8. Serve!
